GLASNEVIN HILL NEAR THE BOTANIC GARDENS ALSO KNOWN AS WASHER WOMEN’S HILL
When I lived in Drumcondra a lady living next door to me once referred to Glasnevin Hill a s Washerwomen’s Hill but at the time I did not pay any real attention to her comment.
However when photographing in the area a few days ago I suddenly remembered what she said more than twenty years ago so I asked my mother if she was aware of the local name and according to her it was so named because many washerwomen would visit the area to wash clothes in the Tolka river.
