GRANGEGORMAN COLLEGE CAMPUS – NOW TU DUBLIN
I live right on the edge of the campus or will do so when the project is completed. My local Tram Stop is on the campus and it is about three minutes from my apartment assuming that I can walk through Kings Inns Park [at weekends the Henrietta Street entrance is locked]. There are two tram stops serving the campus.
TU Dublin, in conjunction with the Grangegorman Development Agency, Health Service Executive and Dublin City Council is developing a new unified campus which is located at Grangegorman in Dublin’s North West Inner city.
The campus will bring together the University’s core and supporting activities in a single vibrant environment, integrating with the strategic development of Dublin City and providing a range of facilities for Students and Staff, for industry and the wider community. Together with the existing Campus in Blanchardstown and Tallaght this will be the heart of the new Technological University Dublin.
Technological University Dublin or TU Dublin[5] is Ireland’s first technological university, established on 1 January 2019, taking over all functions and operations of the three preceding institutions.
The university was formed by the amalgamation of three existing institutes of technology in the Dublin area – Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown, and Institute of Technology, Tallaght, and it is the second-largest third-level institution in Ireland based on student population of 28,500, behind University College Dublin. It is the eighth university in Ireland, and the fourth in the Dublin Region, following Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and Dublin City University.
The institution has a continuous unbroken history stretching back to 1887, with the establishment of the first technical education institution in Ireland, the City of Dublin Technical Schools.
