DUBLIN DOCKLANDS AREA NEAR THE POINT SQUARE AND THE EAST LINK BRIDGE
The Tom Clarke Bridge, formerly and commonly known as the East-Link Toll Bridge, is a toll bridge in Dublin, Ireland, on the River Liffey, owned and operated by Dublin City Council. The bascule-type lifting bridge, which links North Wall to Ringsend, is the last bridge on the Liffey, which opens out into Dublin Port and then Dublin Bay just beyond. The bridge forms part of the R131 regional road.
The city centre is west of the bridge, which links routes on the eastern side of Dublin city. The Dublin Port Tunnel terminates north of the East-Link along East Wall Road, in the Docklands on the north bank of the Liffey. Most of Dublin’s docklands are east of the bridge, but it is raised on average three times per day to allow river traffic to pass.
The Point Village is a commercial and residential development in the North Wall area of Dublin, Ireland. The elements of the €800 million development completed to date include offices and residential and hotel accommodation, a small shopping centre, a cinema, a museum and a five-level underground car park. The main building of the development – now branded as Point Square – containing the retail, hotel and cinema elements as well as office space – was completed prior to the post-2008 Irish economic downturn, however the retail element did not open except as an entry to the cinema.

To be honest the immediate area is a bit bleak and unappealing, but this is only my opinion.
The Point Luas stop,the easternmost terminus of the docklands extension of the Luas Red Line light rail system, is located in the middle of the Point Village complex. This Luas link to Tallaght connects the Point Village to other transport options, including the DART, suburban rail, Busáras, mainline rail, and the future Dublin Metro. The Dublin Port Tunnel southern portal is located nearby.

The development ran into a number of problems and was taken over by NAMA in April 2013.

Dunnes Stores had agreed to be the anchor of the retail element, but has delayed opening the store for more than a decade, appealing repeated legal demands to do so. Some of the internal units are to be combined and converted to health or leisure units due to continued low demand for retail.
The office space has been taken by Oath, moving some operations from their main location at East Point Business Park, and Voxpro.
The hotel element of the development operates as The Gibson Hotel, opened in June 2010 and including nine suites, with access to terrace gardens. It also includes a spa, gymnasium, two outdoor hot-tubs and large conference facilities.
The 73m Exo Building is, as of 2022, under construction on the site of the cancelled Watchtower Building at the Eastern end of Point Village.
On Tuesday, 8 December 2009 the Red Line C1 Connolly to Docklands extension opened. There are four stops: George’s Dock, Mayor Square-NCI, Spencer Dock (serving the new Docklands railway station, approximately 350 metres (1,150 ft) away) and terminating in Point Village, opposite the 3Arena, this extension however bypasses Connolly. Construction started at the beginning of June 2007. Test runs began on the line in September 2009 before the opening.
The name of the area keeps changing … The Point Depot, The Point, The Point Village and now the Point Square.
The Point Depot was constructed in 1878 as a rail terminus for the Midland and Great Western Railway Company, its has been redeveloped a number of times since then.
Harry Crosbie started a major development in the area named the “Point Village” but the project was not completed for various reasons. There is now a wider development known as “Point Square” which is home to the hugely-successful 3 Arena, which hosts more than 100 concerts a year, and the 252-bedroom Gibson Hotel, which is owned by German real estate investor, Deka Immobilien. The Exo Building on completion, will see the addition of 2,000 workers to the Point Square area.
The Exo Building is a 17-storey office building located at the corner of North Wall Quay and East Wall Road in Dublin 1, Ireland. The building is adjacent to the Point Depot (now the 3Arena) fronting on to the river Liffey and Dublin port. As of 2021, it is the tallest office building in the Republic of Ireland at 73 metres tall. The name Exo is in reference to its exoskeleton which reflects the traditional industrial crane and gantry landscape of the port area.
State owned postal services and delivery company An Post have signed a lease to become the anchor tenant for the building.
