I have seen Connaught Parade described as being next to Dalymount Park other than this there is very little information available.
The spelling used on street signs in the area caught my attention as I was taught in school that the spelling was Connacht so I checked Wikipedia and while they agree with me I am still a bit uncertain.
Here is an extract from an online discussion “Connaught is to Connacht what Peking is to Beijing. In phases during the twentieth century a group of clumsily anglicised Gaelic names (Leix for Laois, Dunleary for Dun Laoghaire) were phased out (in reality, binned) and replaced by their original Gaelic antecedents. Connaught is one of these. It remained in usage until the mid-20th century before being respelt in the original Gaelic, which is now the correct form in both Irish and English. Part of the change was linked to the introduction of a new latin alphabet into Irish.”
According to Wikipedia: Connacht, formerly spelled Connaught, is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Since the early 17th century, there have been four Provinces of Ireland: Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster. The Irish word for this territorial division, cúige, meaning “fifth part”, indicates that there were once five; however, in the medieval period there were more. The number of provinces and their delimitation fluctuated until 1610, when they were permanently set by the English administration of James I. The provinces of Ireland no longer serve administrative or political purposes but function as historical and cultural entities.
Dalymount Park is a football stadium in Phibsborough on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland.
It is the home of Bohemian F.C., who have played there since the early 20th century. Affectionately known as Dalyer by fans, it was also historically the “home of Irish football”, holding many Irish internationals and FAI Cup finals. It has also hosted UEFA Champions League qualifiers, UEFA Cup and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup matches. However, the ground was largely undeveloped between the 1940s and the 2000s, and has now fallen out of use as a major venue, except for the home games of Bohemians.
The ground has also been used as a home ground by other League of Ireland teams, including Shamrock Rovers, Dublin City F.C. and Sporting Fingal, and will be used by Shelbourne F.C. once it has been developed. However by February 2022, Shelbourne proposed the purchase of Tolka Park, and the cancellation of the plan to share Dalymount.
Dublin City Council announced in March 2015 that it would purchase Dalymount Park in a deal including the taking back of Tolka Park which it has been leasing to Shelbourne F.C. The council completed the purchase in June 2015 for €3.8million. It was hoped that Bohemians and Shelbourne would become joint sub-tenants to the Football Association of Ireland at Dalymount, and that the ground could be redeveloped. It is thought that Bohemians, the Council and the stadium will emerge from the deal debt-free. The Dalymount deal went ahead despite issues with the Tolka Park acquisition. In October 2016 it was announced that Shelbourne FC would be moving in, after months of speculation. However by February 2022, Shelbourne proposed the purchase of Tolka Park, and the cancellation of the plan to share Dalymount.
As the weather is somewhat less hot than it was I decided to visit the Cabra area of Dublin so I got the tram and got off at the stop beside Mount Bernard Public Park. My intention was to spend two or three hours exploring the area but the heat proved to be too much for me so I returned home by foot.
I cannot decide if Shandon Gardens is in Cabra or Phibsborough so I did ask a few locals and I got different answers. Anyway I came across the following description in the property section of a local newspaper: Located on your doorstep are a host of local amenities including shops, schools, restaurants and bars and is within walking distance of the Luas, the Mater Hospital, the Four Courts, Kings Inns and the DIT City Centre Campus at Grangegorman. For more leisurely pursuits are Mt Bernard Park is on your doorstep, the Royal Canal Walk, the Botanic Gardens and the Phoenix Park. This property will be of interest to those looking for a home in a quiet and highly desirable location within walking distance of Dublin city centre.

IRISH VOLUNTEER MONUMENT IN PHIBSBOROUGH PHOTOGRAPHED USING A SONY FE 20mm F1.8 G LENS
Dublin City Council refer to this as the ‘Irish Volunteer Monument in Phibsboro’.
As this monument was not included on Google Maps I added a pin a few years ago so that you can locate it if you ever nearby. I checked today and it is now included on Google Maps.
For many years I could not gain full access to this memorial as the gates were usually locked which I assumed was to protect against anti-social behaviour. The monument was vandalised in the 1970’s, and the Volunteer stood for many years with no rifle in his hand, until his restoration in 1991. However it would now appear that Dublin City Council are adopting a different approach and are now leaving the gates open twenty four hours per day and from what I have seen so far indicates that vandalism has reduced.
It was only recently that I noticed that this monument was originally build as a fountain but the water supply must have been removed as is often the case in Dublin.
The Irish Volunteer Monument commemorates members of the Dublin Brigade of the Irish Volunteers who fought and died during the Easter Rising (1916) and the War of Independence (1919-21). The monument depicts a soldier and below the soldier scenes from Irish mythology and ancient Irish history: the arrival of the Milesians (the first inhabitants of Ireland), Cuchulainn fighting at the ford and the death of King Brian Boru at Clontarf in 1014.
[24 January 20220]: I am currently planning a number of city trips with the intention of spending a week in Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kilkenny and Waterford. I have booked hotel rooms in the hope that Covid does not interfere with my plans. Today I purchased a Sony 20mm lens which was discounted by Euro 300 the main reason for getting this lens is that I wish to greatly the weight and bulk of the equipment that I need t carry when I am travelling and I also need good low light performance.
The North Circular Road, designated as R101 regional road, is an important thoroughfare on the north-side of Dublin, in Ireland.
The regional road was constructed as the northern boundary of the city, and was laid out with the South Circular Road in 1763. It is still considered to separate the city centre from the inner suburbs. It runs from the Phoenix Park in the west through Phibsboro, to North Wall in the east. A number of important institutions are located along the road, including the Mater Hospital, Dalymount Park and Mountjoy Prison, and both Croke Park and St. Brendan’s Hospital are nearby. The majority of the original, large Victorian red brick houses have been converted into flats or apartments.
