On thing that I have considered is switching from mirrorless cameras to iPhones or other smartphones. I have today, 7 June 2022, installed iOS 16 on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and took the opportunity to capture some images locally. In many ways I am very impressed by the iPhone as a camera but I don’t really enjoy using it as much as using a normal camera with a viewfinder. I should mention that I used the Apple camera app and Halide Mark II.
iOS 16 is the 16th and upcoming major release of the iOS mobile operating system developed by Apple for its iPhone line of products. It was announced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 6, 2022, as the successor to iOS 15.
The public version of iOS 16 is expected to be released in late 2022, while the public beta is expected to become available in July 2022.
Halide couples the power of a DSLR camera with a clutter-free interface you can control with one thumb. Intuitive gestures, modelled after the focus and exposure dials on an old-school camera, make pros feel at home while capturing gorgeous ML-enhanced RAW images. And with Halide II’s support for Siri Shortcuts and a dedicated Apple Watch app, snapping the shutter from afar is a breeze.
During my visit I was very aware that the Lagan Rivers produces an unpleasant smell at certain times of day and I detected the smell well away from the river.
The Lagan Weir, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, crosses the River Lagan between the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and the M3 cross-harbour bridge.[ Prior to the building of the weir, the river would be subject to tidal fluctuations, and low tide would expose mudflats, which were unsightly and emitted a strong odour, particularly in the summer months. Opened in 1994, the weir was seen by the Laganside Corporation as a catalyst for its redevelopment projects and was judged to be the “centrepiece” of that effort. The weir also incorporates a footbridge.
Beside the weir is the Big Fish and the Glass Of Thrones. The Glass of Thrones walking trail along the Maritime Mile in Belfast features a unique series of stained-glass windows depicting key moments from Game of Thrones®. Baratheon window is at the Lagan Weir. House Baratheon – specifically The Red Woman Melisandre – is central here, reinforcing her significance throughout the series. You’ll see the death of both King Robert – which set in motion the War of the Five Kings – and arguably the show’s number one villain, Joffrey – depicted here. The burning fleet of The One True King Stannis during the Battle of the Blackwater also feature in this predominantly red window that represent either bloodshed or Melisandre herself.
This year I decided to avoid the St. Patrick’s Day parade so I visited less busy parts of the city.
I lived and worked here for three or four years and also attended a nearby school for ten years and I have always liked the area but when I was young Wilton Place and Wilton Terrace was to be avoided, at night, as it was a very active red light area.
As you can see from my photographs there are a number of active construction sites in the area the main one being Wilton Park described as a landmark development which will see 5,000 additional people working and living in the neighbourhood when it is fully complete in 2024.
The Wilton Park site has been assembled over a 40-year period in order to transform this part of the city. As well as offices, the neighbourhood’s amenity-rich streetscapes will offer places to eat, drink and shop, and spaces to relax and dwell including a new public square and the restored one-acre park.
During construction, 95% of demolition waste was recycled and offices will use 60% less energy than the average what was typical until now. Two to Four Wilton Park will operate free of fossil fuels, running solely on renewable energy.

I have frequently complained that the majority of fountains and water features in Dublin are inactive or dry. However, much to my surprise, this installation on Wolf Tone Quay actually has water. I have noticed a few visitor reviews in which they mentioned that they did not feel safe at this specific location especially at night and to be honest I have to agree because I have had issues in the past. Of course, I should mention that this was once a very active “red light” area.
Wolfe Tone Quay is one of several quays along the Liffey, part of maritime developments within the city stretching back to the thirteenth century. Formerly known as Albert Quay, but known as Wolfe Tone Quay since the early twentieth century, this section dates from the early nineteenth century and is the most westerly of the northern quays. The quay wall is of well-built ashlar granite and presents a strong visual statement. The quays are of significance in the context of the economic and maritime development of Dublin city as one of Ireland’s principal ports. They are representative of early nineteenth-century engineering technology.
The first edition of Ulysses, by James Joyce, was published a hundred years ago.
Ulysses is a modernist novel by Irish writer James Joyce. It was first serialised in parts in the American journal The Little Review from March 1918 to December 1920 and then published in its entirety in Paris by Sylvia Beach on 2 February 1922, Joyce’s 40th birthday. It is considered one of the most important works of modernist literature and has been called “a demonstration and summation of the entire movement.” According to Declan Kiberd, “Before Joyce, no writer of fiction had so foregrounded the process of thinking”.
Ulysses chronicles the appointments and encounters of the itinerant Leopold Bloom in Dublin in the course of an ordinary day, 16 June 1904. Ulysses is the Latinised name of Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey, and the novel establishes a series of parallels between the poem and the novel, with structural correspondences between the characters and experiences of Bloom and Odysseus, Molly Bloom and Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus and Telemachus, in addition to events and themes of the early 20th-century context of modernism, Dublin, and Ireland’s relationship to Britain. The novel is highly allusive and also imitates the styles of different periods of English literature.
Since its publication, the book has attracted controversy and scrutiny, ranging from an obscenity trial in the United States in 1921 to protracted textual “Joyce Wars”. The novel’s stream of consciousness technique, careful structuring, and experimental prose—replete with puns, parodies, and allusions—as well as its rich characterisation and broad humour have led it to be regarded as one of the greatest literary works in history; Joyce fans worldwide now celebrate 16 June as Bloomsday.
