SUNKEN BOAT IN THE PARK CANAL NEAR ABBEY BRIDGE IN LIMERICK
This was photographed in June 2016. I visited the Park Canal again last year, 2018, and I can confirm that the wreck has been removed.
Back in 2004 a five-year scheme to reopen the former Limerick Park Canal linking the city’s university area to the Shannon was announced. It was to feature as a prime example of waterside regeneration. The reopening of the canal which has been derelict for more than 70 years was to be the centre piece of the city’s waterside regeneration project.
I do not know that status of the project but it could not have been completed when I visited in June 2016 because there was a sunken wreck blocking one of the lock near Abbey Bridge and the Absolute Hotel.
