MEMORIES OF MOUNT STREET BY DEREK A FITZSIMONS
This is located at Mount Street Crescent and it is commonly described as “A statue of a child playing on the street – a girl swings out of a rope attached to an old-fashioned lamppost”.
There are two other sculptures nearby – “Birdie” by Rowan Gillespie and statues of John B. Keane and Brian Friel.
Fitzsimons only began carving at the age of thirty five. He has received many public sculpture commissions. They include ‘Memories of Mount Street’ beside the Peppercannister Church in Dublin and ‘Tree From A Secret Garden’ in Kill, Co. Kildare.
